-According to Down Syndrome Education Online, most studies done on children with Down Syndrome are based on white families living in western industrialized nations, this gives us limited knowledge on the different ways that families/societies as a whole adapt to and view these children.
-In 2008, Dr. Tran M. Ly conducted a study to observe the effects of child characteristics and culturally related expectations on parents’ attributions of children with Down syndrome. This looked at both Asian American families and European American families. Asian American parents viewed their children's performance less favorably and made attribution of low ability and low effort. These parents were also found to put more blame on their children and felt more anger.
Gender
According to the Kianh Foundation, boys are around 15% more likely to be born with Down Syndrome.
